Is RootsFinder Really Free?

Short Answer

Yes! The core product is free.

Longer answer

You can upgrade to get additional features such as private trees and additional storage. Upgraded subscriptions will also remove advertising from the site. The upgrade subscriptions are charged annually. If you don't renew a subscription, we'll give you plenty of notice before putting you back on the free plan. (We won't delete your trees or content; you just won't be able to add more items if you're over the storage limit for free plans.) 

Partners such as FamilySearch and Findmypast

Please be aware: RootsFinder works with partners to provide you hints about information our partners may have about your family. Many of them, like FamilySearch, are free. Others, like Findmypast, require a subscription in order to access their content. Any subscriptions you may have with partners are outside of our control. You will need to work with the partner company directly if you have questions, problems, or cancellations for their site.

One other thing you may like to know: some of our partners, like Findmypast, also have arrangements with the LDS church which will allow you to use their premium sites for free at a local family history center. The LDS church has also made arrangements with some partners to give reduced rates to LDS church members seeking their ancestry for temple work.
